Because of the negative health effects of ingesting arsenic, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the World Health Organization have established a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 10 parts per billion in drinking water. In the USA, compliance with the EPA limit is required by January 2006. Over five percent of the community water systems in the United States which serve over 10,000,000 people, require treatment to meet the new limit. |
